MATTHEWS, Sidney – Passed peacefully away at Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Monday, June 8, 2020, Sidney Matthews of Port Blandford, aged 90 years. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Edith of 64 years; children Carl (Millie), Cliff, Dean (Diana) and Roxanne (Paul); grandchildren Sherri, Gerard, Raelynn, Colin, Kevin, Crystal and Dylan; ten great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters Marion Legge (Harold) of Lewisporte and Harriett Lane (Gerald) of Glovertown; brother Gerald (Mary) of Gander; special fur baby Ranger and a large circle of family and friends. Sidney was predeceased by his sisters Margaret, Marjorie, Evelyn, Daphne, Dorothy and Virtue. Resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. A private funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the United Church, Port Blandford with interment to follow at the United Cemetery, Port Blandford.
Sidney was a charter member of the Legion Branch 48 in Port Blandford for 55+ years of service. He was a Koren War Veteran with the Royal Canadian Army and also a peacekeeper in Germany. Upon his return from the war he worked as a forest ranger in Newfoundland and Labrador.
