Shirley May McCaw
May 1, 1922 – August 27, 2020
On August 27, 2020 Shirley May McCaw (nee Cole) left this world in her 99th year to join her predeceased parents Ben and Cora Cole, husband John McCaw, sister Eulalie Cory, brother Dan Cole and nephew Norman Cory. Also joining many close friends she had over the years including Lillian Cole, Irene Simmons and Shirley Ostrander.
She leaves behind her children: Rosemary (Josef), David, Neil, Melanie and Dan (Wendy). She was a grandmother of 7 (Christine, Trevor, Glenda, Darryl, Janus, Darius, Lianne), great grandmother of 12 with one on the way.
Shirley led a full life, raising her family on a dairy farm, was an active member of the community: St. Phillips Church, one of the founding member of the Friendship Circle, a 4H Leader many times. In her youth, she spent summers out on Main Ducks where her Dad worked as a fisherman. Though she didn’t get to enjoy it as much as she would have liked, travelling was a pleasure she enjoyed. Her trip to Scotland with her best friend Lillian was a highlight, often coming up in conversations. She truly enjoyed her 5 week road trip out to Vancouver Island, down the west coast to San Francisco and back through the U.S. seeing many sites she had read about. Shirley was an avid reader all her life, historical novels being her favourite genre. Crossword puzzles were always being worked to the last stay in the hospital. When asked what she was most proud of, Shirley replied her family. Shirley will be missed by her entire family.
Graveside service on Monday, August 31 at Cherry Valley Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Joyce Blackburn at 10:30 am. If desired, donations to Hospice Prince Edward, St. Philips Anglican Church in Milford or to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. A Celebration Of Life to be announced at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to the Whattam Funeral Home, 33 Main St., Picton, ON.
