Obituary
Shirley Marie Cummins (McDonald), age 88 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 26th, 2020 at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Les; daughter Leila; and son Don (Terri) as well as two grandsons, Spencer and Taylor; sisters Bev (Gary) Phillips and Arlene (Lawrence) Bell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Shirley was born August 13, 1932 in Shoal Lake, MB to Archie and Violet McDonald. In her journey to become a teacher, she moved from the country school to Shoal Lake High School and then continued her education at Normal School in Winnipeg, and later at Brandon University. Her teaching career spanned 33 years, and her love of reading and learning and what was going on in the world continued throughout her life.
Shirley loved sewing, ceramics, knitting and baking and the vast majority of those interests and products were completed to give to others. She was a kind, caring, strong, patient, and on occasion, feisty person. Mostly she was an amazing wife, mum, gramma, sister, aunt and friend.
Due to Covid 19 there will be a small family graveside funeral in Minnedosa. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, 1160- 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice.
