Shirley’s Obituary
NEW GLASGOW – Shirley Helen Snell, 84, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 13, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late William Edward and Catherine Colter (Yerxa) Purvis. Shirley was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow. She was a devoted homemaker who lovingly provided fresh baked goods everyday for her family. Shirley enjoyed hooking rugs, knitting, playing cards, and in earlier years, fishing and hunting with her husband, Keith. To her children, she was “the best mother in the world and a warm and caring “nanny” to her grand and great-grandchildren. Shirley has left her family a rich legacy of love and perseverance.
Surviving are her children, Cathy (Lionel) Arbuckle and Virginia (James) Crawford, Foxbrook; Neil (Susan) Snell, Pictou Landing; Timmy (Crystal) Snell, Walkerville; Dena (Russell) Green, Walkerville; Betty (Ricky) Patterson, Westville; Paula (Tim) Morgan, Trenton; Jacki Bailey, Halifax; sister, Beatrice Ann Purvis, Walkerville; brothers, Wilbur Purvis, Bridgeville; Roy (Junie) Purvis, Thorburn; Graham Purvis, Woodburn; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Keith John Snell; daughter, Valerie Bailey; brothers, Jack Purvis and Sterling Purvis; sisters-in-law, Joan Purvis, Karen Purvis and Sylvia Purvis.
In honour of Shirley’s life, her family will celebrate her life privately.
If desired, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
