She was predeceased by her father, Leslie King; and her mother, Grace King. Faye was born on September 11, 1938 in Gananoque, Ontario. She grew up on a farm, learning about the hard work and dedication required to make farm life a success. When she was seven years old, she contracted the measles, and developed a serious ear infection. Despite the resultant hearing loss from this infection she persevered and never gave up on her dreams. She graduated from Gananoque Secondary School in 1956 and went on to receive her secretarial certificate in 1957. She worked as a secretary in Kingston at Canadian Dredge and Dock and then at the Institute for Psychotherapy. During this time, she and her friends attended a dance at Queen’s University where she met her future husband Dan. Dan and Faye were married on June 30, 1962. They moved to Sarnia Ontario, where Dan began his career as a chemical engineer working for Home Oil. During their time in Sarnia, their first child was born. Chris arrived in 1965. They then moved to Oakville, Ontario where their daughter Alison was born in 1967. In 1972, with her two young children in school, Faye continued to follow her passion of becoming a teacher. She graduated from teacher’s college and began supply teaching in Oakville. She continued her education and attended night classes at McMaster University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She then obtained a Bachelor of Education from Brock University and worked at Syl Apps, a school for young offenders in Oakville. In 1984 Dan was transferred to Calgary, when Shell Oil moved the head office. Faye embarked on a new adventure with her family. She continued her teaching career and began teaching with the Calgary Board of Education, teaching at West View School, which was within The Calgary Young Offenders Centre. She taught there for five years and left to begin work at R.B. Bennett Elementary School. While teaching at R.B. Bennett, she formed many strong friendships that she would maintain to her final days. Faye was a kind and caring teacher, approaching each day with a love of learning and dedication to her students. She passed her love of learning onto her children and grandchildren as she supported their learning, teaching them, and reading with them. Faye was a loving grandmother and she was always there for her grandchildren. When she retired from her teaching career, she helped out with the babysitting of her two youngest grandchildren, shepherding them through their early years. A Memorial Service will be at St James Anglican Church – 6351 Ranchview Dr NW, Calgary, AB on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Dr. Dane Neufeld will officiate the service.
