Shirley Evangeline Clerk 19292020

Shirley Evangeline Clerk
1929-2020
Shirley Evangeline Clerk, 90, of Halifax,
formerly of New Minas, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, in Melville
Lodge, Halifax. Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the
late Robert and Bernice (Bennett) Cook. She was a passionate
Registered Nurse, having graduated from the Montreal School of Nursing
in 1952. During her career, she had been employed in
Kentville at the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, the
Children’s Ward of the Nova Scotia Sanatorium and later at
the Kings County Hospital, Waterville. Shirley was a hard
worker, always staying busy, all the while possessing a great sense of
humour which she passed on to her family. Her passion for
nursing was equaled only by her passion for playing
bridge. She is survived by her three daughters,
Katherine (Peter) Cooper, Susan Clerk (Tony) and Faye (Doug)
Hounsell; two sons, Charles (Friedel) Clerk and Thomas (Kim) Clerk; 10
grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Moir; several
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 63
years, Alexander “Ackie” Clerk and a sister, Phyllis
MacPherson. Cremation has taken place. A private
family service will take place at a later date. The family
wishes to thank the staff of Melville Lodge, Halifax, for the care,
kindness and compassion shown to Shirley and her family. Arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
