Obituary of Sheila Elizabeth Oickle
Age 79, Beaver Harbour, passed away in Sheet Harbour on November 5, 2020. Born in The Goulds, N.L., March 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Katherine (Dinn) Carew. Sheila and her family moved to Halifax in 1948. She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High and the Halifax Infirmary School of Medical Library Science. After graduation, she was employed by the Victoria General Hospital as a Medical Records Librarian and several years later as the head of that department. In the summer of 1980, while visiting a friend in Sheet Harbour, she met the love of her life, Merrill Oickle. They were married the following year and settled in Beaver Harbour, where she lived happily, until her passing. She is survived by her husband, Merrill; brother, Gene Carew (Mary); and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Sheila was predeceased by her brother, Stanley; and sister, Margaret Stargratt. At this time, the family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Merrill’s family, especially her sisters-in-law, Jean MacQueen and Bonnie Whitman, who were of invaluable assistance to Sheila during her life in Beaver Harbour. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8th from 2-4 p.m. in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Hwy. 7, Sheet Harbour. Masks required. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 9th at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Archbishop Martin Currie officiating, masks required.
