SARNECKI, Dianne
August 13, 1951 — November 14, 2020
On November 14, 2020, Dianne Sarneki passed away unexpectedly at the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 69.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Sarnecki; daughters Kristy (David) Redding and Kylene (Tyson) Chernask; son Ron (Kelly) Halwa; and grandchildren Stella and Nico Redding, Carter and Christopher Chernask, and Kingstun and Tavius Halwa.
Born August 13, 1951, in Trail, BC, Dianne was the youngest and fourth daughter to Magdalena and John Polovejchuk. Fast-forward to meeting the love of her life, Ron Sarnecki, who she married in Vernon, BC on November 12, 1976. Dianne and Ron began their lives together in BC and Alberta, and ultimately decided to plant their roots in the beautiful Okanagan. Mom had many careers, from working for the government to working at a hospital. She spent her last 25 years working at Okanagan University College – she began in the Science Department and ended her career in the Registrar’s Office.
A devoted wife of 44 years, Dianne left behind 3 incredible children: Kristy, Kylene, and Ron Jr. Mom was happy to be part of her 6 grandchildren’s lives, and she lived every moment for them. She made it a priority to be with them when they were all brought into this world.
To say that mom was organized and had incredible work ethic is an understatement. Neat, tidy, and so methodical, Mom took pride in keeping a clean house; she could iron anything (which is a lost art). She continuously put 110% into anything and everything, always with so much love. Homemade birthday cakes, homemade sugar cookies with icing for Valentines Day class parties, all made with copious amounts of love and care. Mom was always the first to rise in the morning with the sun. She enjoyed the solitude with a good cup of coffee and loved the peace that those moments brought to her.
Mom also loved cats, and we always had furry companions in our home: Ashes, Jessie, Ginger, and Poppy were just some of our pets who became part of our family. Mom loved books and was an avid reader. She passed down the love of reading to her children and often took them to the local library, a garage sale, or Coles Books to buy a book. Books were essential in our home.
Mom’s favourite time of year was Christmas. It brought her such happiness and joy. Once November 1st arrived that meant it was time to watch Christmas movies. All things Christmas, the music (Kenny & Dolly’s Christmas will always be a staple in the house), fresh cut Christmas trees, decorating, and her Christmas Villages brought her nothing but pure joy and happiness. By far she made the best shortbread cookies. Her many recipes were passed down to her three children who will without a doubt pass them on to her grandchildren.
Dianne cherished everything she loved in her life. She was a memory collector. Her most prized possessions were stories, artwork, and crafts made by her children and grandchildren, treasured family photos, family recipes passed on down, and so much more. She treasured them all. Everything she saved meant something so important and was truly valuable – all of it filled her home and life up until her last moments.
Mom, may you always be surrounded with our love, peace, and warm sunny skies. You will be forever missed and never ever forgotten. We all got the best parts of you.
