Obituary of Sandy Simpson
Kathleen Alexandra (Sandy) Simpson 1948-2020
It is with great sadness that the Simpson family announces the sudden death of their dear Sister and Aunt, at her home in Temagami, Ontario.
Sandy had a heart of gold, was fiercely independent, and self-motivated. A woman of many talents, she developed her love of all things outdoors growing up in the Halton Hills, Oakville, and later living in Creemore, Ontario, and lastly, Temagami, Ontario.
During Sandy’s dedicated career with Mac Truck and Volvo Canada, she was able to travel internationally to see the sights of Europe and found time to enjoy theatre, dance, and music performances, as well as the outdoors of Ontario North. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, folk festivals, and one of her favorites, antiquing with family members. Sandy was a dedicated volunteer and delighted in devoting her time and skills in Creemore to fund-raising events, supporting local artisans, volunteering in the Library (she believed passionately in books), decorating floats, making costumes for the Santa Claus parade, creating and tending her parent’s garden, and much more. In Temagami she lent her talents to the Lions Club, Winterfest, outdoor markets, local entrepreneurs, the Public Library, Friends of Temagami, and White Pine Forest-historical preservation projects; she was a whirlwind of endless energy.
Sandy was a caring supporter of animal groups and advocate of environmental sustainability, both evident in her lifestyle, especially on her shared island in Temagami with her brother John’s family. Sandy spent many glorious holidays and vacations there on Jack Pine Lake, renovating, building, planting, boating, fishing, and spending time with nieces and nephews; a mini paradise that filled her life with joy.
Sandy lived to create. She built furniture, refinished primitives, sewed and more. She thrived in her garden in Temagami; a magnificent showcase of her sense of creative design, colour, and texture, created with a love and knowledge of nature.
Sandy was a good neighbor. She loved to chat and help her community with any garden question; she volunteered at the local garden centre. Her neighbours were exceedingly kind and caring – some her guardian angels. We thank you for caring for Sandy these last years in Temagami.
Sandy loved her relatives with intense generosity and care and exemplified those same values to her nieces and nephews. She loved to bake, to cook, and to give gifts that reflected her commitment to the environment, thoughtful and practical. We will miss her salsa, pickles, jams, her casseroles and cakes (hurray for banana bread, huh Briar?).
Sandy shaped everything important in her life around the outdoors; she gave back ten-fold to her family and to nature. She will be missed for her adventurous spirit, her generosity, and her loving heart.
Sandy leaves her siblings: John (Kathy) Robyn (David), Rosemary (Graham), her brother David, and her many nieces and nephews in the Simpson, Tough, and Aylward families, and her dear grand nieces and nephews with whom she found much delight and joy.
