Obituary
Sandra (Sandy) Isobel Howe (Nee Sayers)
Passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta Jan 22 , 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on April 2 1947, Sandy grew up near Cut Knife, Sask, and did her schooling at the one room Riding Hill School.
Sandy was an avid motorcyclist and loved nothing more than being in the wind with her husband John, she would actually fall asleep during rides , which astonished more than a few people.
She loved camping, hiking and exploring the country, and she and John were often gone with their trailer in the summer to parts unknown , sitting by the fire, playing cribbage and flying their kites.
Winters in Saskatchewan also meant sled time. And the entire family sure loved their Arctic Cats. SO many fond memories riding to the Lily Pond and to the Ranch or just riding to ride.
She spent many weekends out of many summers at Atton’s Lake , near Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, where she grew up. Swimming, golfing, campfires and friends and family were the focus of summers at Atton’s. Many laughs and memories were sure had at little cabin 109. And we documented it on the roof for all to enjoy.
She was an avid reader, and transferred her love of the paperback and hardcover to both of her sons. She was particularly enamored with the musings of Nora Roberts and John D.MacDonald, the latter of which son Bryan has very much taken to and is in the process of collecting the works of, which she was immensely happy about.
When it was too cold to be outside, if she and John were watching tv, they were likely watching cooking shows, or something outdoors oriented. Oh and in recent times she really LOVED the Ellen show.
When it was time to cheer, oh you better believe she cheered, whether it was for the beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, Team Canada in ANYTHING (Curling, Figure Skating, World Junior Hockey , Olympics, you name it)
She was one terrific cook, and we will surely all miss her Scottish Shortbread and her signature Spagh and meatballs. Many a person left her table with WAAAAAY too much food in their bellies.
One favorite relatable story is when she was a small child, older brother Ken had a lasso and was swinging it, and she asked him “whatcha gonna rope??” He said “run” Was it true? Perhaps. It was certainly a story she told with love of her upbringing.
In recent years she became immersed in making dreamcatchers of many shapes, sizes and colors, and there certainly are many people near and far that hang one proudly.
She was active in fundraising for the Jack Ady Cancer centre prior to and even after her recent retirement, and was a yearly supporter of STARS air ambulance service.
She leaves behind loving husband John , brother Ken (Lorna) , brother in law Herb (Betty), sons David (Stephanie) and Bryan , grandsons Noah, Zack, Liam and A.J. , nieces Dana and Heidi , nephews Jim, Ken, Don and Mark, brothers in law Greg (Heather) and Rob (Judy) , Sister in law Sharon(Barry) and nieces Melissa, Andrea and Karla.
Sandy was predeceased by her Mother(Ruth) and Father(Norman), her sister Betty, Father in law Jack, and Mother in Law Kay.
In lieu of flowers , donations in Sandra’s name can be made to the Jack Ady Cancer Centre.
