Obituary
Samuel Steinke
November 12, 1921 – October 23, 2020
Samuel Steinke was born to Gustav and Martha Steinke on November 12, 1921 at home near Beiseker, Alberta. In total, twelve children comprised the family – four of them dying as infants or very young children. Life was often difficult.
When Sam was nine years old, the family of seven moved to Millet in 1930, where they farmed and drilled wells. As Sam grew, he spent much time working with his father learning to farm and be resourceful in making things work. In 1949 he married Mabel Schafer. They had three children, Judy, Terry and Doyle.
Sam operated a small dairy for many years while farming the land and driving a school bus for 42 years to Pipestone School and Pigeon Lake Regional School. As time went on they welcomed a son-in-law, Reg, and two daughters-in-law, Linda and Jody. Next came seven grandchildren. As one would expect, eleven great-grandchildren provided much joy. Numerous foster children were loved along the way.
Sam was respected in the community and loved by many. Late in the evening of October 23, 2020 Sam closed his eyes in rest. He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel; parents, Gustav and Martha; brothers, August, Clarence, Lawrence and Melvin; sisters, Dephi, Ruth, Robina, Esther, and Bernice.
Surviving are Judy (Reg) Demitor, Terry (Linda), Doyle (Jody); seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous foster children; sisters, Violet and Letha as well as his nieces and nephews.
Services will be held for Sam in the Wetaskiwin Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. Due to Covid restrictions, the service will be by invitation only but will be livestreamed from the Wetaskiwin Seventh-day Adventist Church’s YouTube channel at : www.youtube.com/channel/UCky-U487cpEpYNSnrISLx1A
