Samuel (Sam) Michael Kean
January 22, 1946 – December 14, 2020
Sam Kean, of St. John’s, 74 years, passed away at home with family by his side after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by parents, Josephine Mullowney and Samuel Kean, siblings Douglas, Robert and Dorothy, and first wife Joyce Kean. Survived by loving wife of 21 years, Loretta Chard-Kean, sister Jean (William Robert) Voisey, sons Michael (Liz), Rob (Corie), Steve (Erin) and Jeff (Carolyn). Loving and proud “Poppy Sam” to Allyson, Garry and Sam. Sam leaves behind a large and loving family and a multitude of friends throughout the province and beyond.
Sam was an avid golfer, enjoyed travel, and he especially enjoyed vacationing at his winter home in Largo, Florida where he loved hosting his annual fish and chips night with his many friends, old and new. Sam was a passionate cook. All who were fortunate enough to score an invite to his home were well-fed and sent off with takeaway. Sam was a loyal public servant for 36 years who dedicated much of his career to social and economic development. He served his community by sitting on various volunteer boards throughout his retirement.
Cremation has taken place. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. No visitation by request. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 10 a.m. from Caul’s Chapel, LeMarchant Road. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
