Peacefully, at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, Chatham, on Wednesday October 7th, 2020 of Chatham in his 91st year. Cherished son of the late William and Margaret Houston. Beloved husband of Kathleen. Loving father of Mark (Jude) Houston of Madison Wisconsin, Eric (Darci Knott) Houston of London, Alison (Mark) Van Praet of Chatham, Matthew (Lynn Bourdon) Houston of Port Carling, Amy (Paul) Reaume of Amherstburg, and Andy (Jodi) Houston of Wellington. Proud Grandpa of Connor, Lauren, Amy, Emma, Jesse, Iain, Emily, Matthew (predeceased 2019), Jesse, Heather, Nikki, Grace, Caleb, Mason, Breanna, Chloe, Dylan, Zachary, Kiara. Proud Great Grandpa of Alaina, Parker, Austin, Samuel, Nathan, Evan, Jasmine, Bentley, Adam, Millie, Noah and Hallee. Will be missed by many nieces and nephews, and extended family. Predeceased by his siblings Margaret (Jim) Oliver, Alex (Lucy) Houston, and Bill Houston, and daughter in law Karri-Ann Houston. Friends wishing to pay their respects to Sam are invited to call the funeral home in advance to reserve a time on Thursday October 15th, 2020 with visiting from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, you must schedule your visitation time in advance. All attendees as mandated by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario must wear a mask at all visitations and funerals. A funeral mass for Sam will be celebrated from Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham, on Friday October 16th, 2020 at 1 pm with Father Frank Leslie celebrant. Parish prayers will be shared at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm. Friends wishing to attend the funeral mass are invited to call the funeral home in advance to reserve a seat, as limited seating is available. Cremation to follow. Interment for immediate family only at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Scarborough at a later date.
