Ruth’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of Ruth Margaret (Davis) Herbert of Shelburne, N.S. Ruth peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of July 3, 2020 in her home, at the age of 86. Ruth was born in Shelburne on March 14th, 1934. The daughter of the late Olive (Davis) Shortliffe and stepfather John Shortliffe. While raising a family of 7 children she also worked for 25 years until retiring from Roseway Hospital. In her early years she enjoyed music, bowling where she made some of her lifelong friends. She also took pleasure in working in her many gardens as well as cooking large Sunday dinners for her family. In later years she got great pleasure sitting in her sunroom, listening to Country Music tapping her feet while singing along at times, doing puzzles, quilting, scratch tickets, playing tv bingo with friends, talking to, and taking Precious (her dog) for rides on her walker or holding her and watching birds and deer mingling in her yard while looking out over Shelburne Harbour. Ruth is survived by her, daughters: Thelma Marie (Louise) Delisle of Shelburne, (Ted Lavender). Florence Ann (Paul) Villeneuve of Gatineau Quebec, Carol May (Paul) Chetwynd of Shelburne, Bonnie Elaine(Martes) Mansel of Detroit . Sons: Fred Douglas Herbert of Chester and Frank Allen (Judy) Herbert of Shelburne. Sisters: Betty (David) Hill of Shelburne. Jean Jones of Texas. Brothers: Donnie (Juanita) Shortliffe of Shelburne, Sammy Shortliffe of Shelburne. Grand daughters: Susan Nickerson of Halifax, Dana Villeneuve of Londonderry New Hampshire, Tara Herbert of Shelburne, Tasha Herbert of Shelburne. Jennifer Herbert of Toronto. Jessica Herbert of Toronto. Grand sons: Mike Villeneuve of Ottawa, Brian Herbert of Halifax, Robert Mansel of Detroit, Ryan Herbert of Lockport, Blair Herbert of Shelburne, Mathew Chetwynd of Halifax, Daniel Race of Halifax. Chris Chetwynd of Dartmouth. Also 10 great grand children. As well as numerous nieces and nephews, and 2 step granddaughters. Ruth is predeceased by her husband: Charles Clinton Herbert and a son Robert Charles Herbert, sister: Barbra Warrington, brothers: Millan Davis, Tony Davis, John (Ink) Shortliffe, Wally Shortliffe. Sister in- laws: Bertha O’Connell, Edith Robar, Mary Herbert, Lina Turner. Brother in laws Robert (Dewy) Herbert, Gerald (Manny) Herbert. Father in law Clinton Herbert, Mother in-law Florence Herbert. As per her wish’s cremation has taken place under the direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home Shelburne. Funeral service will be at the Anglican Christ Church in Shelburne. On Friday July 10, 2020 at 2pm. Reverend Ed Trevor’s will be officiating. We would like to thank VON for their wonderful support and compassion during her illness. Special thanks to Doctor Andrew Blackdar for his exemplary caring, outstanding guidance during these difficult times. Flowers are welcome (she enjoyed them).
