Obituary
Ruby Dolores Souster (nee Boyle)
1935 – 2020
“Dolly” left this world from St. Paul’s Hospital (Palliative) on September 18, 2020 surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 85. She is survived by her daughter’s; Gayla (José, Anja) & Darla (Dimitri, Chance & Dylan) & many nieces/ nephews. Dolly was pre-deceased by her husband Gordon (1991), her parents Berkley (1984) & Velma (2003), brothers Bob (1982) & Tom (2020), plus numerous extended family. Dolly was born on the family farm in Vanscoy, SK where she developed her love of animals and especially for her horses Bess & Beauty, who she spoke affectionately about. She attended Laurel & Vanscoy Schools, then Robertson’s Career College in Saskatoon. Dolly married Gordon Souster in 1957 at St. Thomas Wesley in Saskatoon. They were married 34 years until his passing in 1991. Photos, books, handwritten letters & cards of all kinds were cherished by her. She took special delight in hand-picking each card with the recipient in mind. Often these cards would be enclosed with a handwritten letter & heartfelt wishes. She meticulously kept track of all occasions of friends & family alike. Dolly was known to constantly update her “history records” with new babies, weddings & death announcements. There wasn’t an obituary that she didn’t keep! This habit carried over to stats of the CFL & SK Roughriders. She kept many books of handwritten player rosters, individual goals, injuries & her precise records of games that would make a Sports Announcer blush. Dolly will be forever remembered by family & friends for her wonderful holiday turkey, handmade pies, desserts, welcoming smile & love of family. Grandma Dolly was especially proud of her grandchildren to which she adored. In her early years, she wrote short stories, drew pictures & dreamt of faraway places. She enjoyed tackling ridiculously difficult crossword puzzles & searching the dictionary to learn new words to add to her substantial vocabulary. Dolly loved music of all kinds, everything from Big Bands to Rock n’ Roll, Disco & Reggae. There was always music playing. At her request, there will be no funeral. Mom & Dad are now reunited and you can be assured that they have already gone dancing. In lieu of cards & flowers, donations to any animal rescue center or a charity of your choice.
