Obituary
With loving remembrance and saddened hearts, the family of Roy Woolsey of Fawcett, AB announces his passing, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday October 6, 2020 after a short illness.
He was born November 19, 1931 the youngest of 5 children, the first baby born in Hines Creek, AB and was lovingly spoiled by his parents and older siblings.
Roy worked for the CN Telegraphs and was posted to the Repeater Station in Fawcett, AB and it was here that he met his future wife Carol and her young daughter Heather. Roy and Carol married in 1962 and had three more children: Guy, Tim, Edith, a fifth child, Shayne, joined the family later.
In spite of his reputation for playing hooky in Grade 12, he later attended university at the age of 32 where he got his Education degree. He taught English and other subjects in Jarvie and Fawcett Schools and was the principal of Jarvie School for several years. He instilled a love of reading, classics and Greek mythology into his children and grandchildren, as well as his students.
When Roy and Carol moved to their farm at Fawcett and with his love of animals, they had horses, cows, ducks, chickens, cats and always a dog. The vet would comment that the animals were always very well cared for. All of the cows had a name and Roy wasn’t above putting a newborn calf in the bathtub to warm it up on cold winter nights.
Roy is survived by his wife Carol, his children and their spouses: Heather (Bryan), Guy (Samantha), Tim, Edie (Doug); six grandchildren: Allison (Steve), Jordyn (Mackenzie), Mark, Adrianna (Joel), Eric, Elise; one great-grandson Carter; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He enjoyed his grandchildren and new great-grandson Carter and was looking forward to another great-grandchild in February. The grandkids have many memories of Grampa taking them to the Fawcett Husky where he bought them treats and always finished up these outings with a trip to the Fawcett playground.
He was predeceased by his son, Shayne; parents: Gordon and Beatrice; siblings: Garnett, Bill, Faye and Gordon.
In accordance with current guidelines, a small private memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family will be grateful if you wish to make a memorial donation to the Fawcett Seniors, c/o Box 1, Fawcett, AB T0G 0Y0 or to the Pembina North Community School, R.R. #1, Dapp, AB T0G 0S0.
