Passed away, peacefully after a long and well lived life, on January 17th, 2020 at Caressant Care On Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, Rose (Budai) Smith, in her 105th year. Born in Minto, New Brunswick to the late Alexander Budai and late Rose (Pandak) Budai. In 1912, Alec and Rose Budai left Hungary and went to England to get on the Titanic, but it was full, so they came to Canada on a cattle boat. Former resident of Glen Meyer and Mabees Corners.
Predeceased by her husband of 56 years Clifford Charles Smith (1995). Survived by her children: Clara (George Wall), of Woodstock; Robert ‘Bob’ (Marie) Smith, of Tillsonburg; Larry Smith (Trudy Wice), of Tillsonburg; Doug (Linda), of St. Thomas; and Shirley (Gerald Smith), of St. Thomas. Survived by a brother-in-law Ben Vandendriessche (Margaret) and son-in-law Duane Hicks (late Marilyn Hicks July 18, 2017), as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In keeping with Rose’s wishes, direct burial has taken place on January 18th, 2020 in the Tillsonburg Cemetery, under the auspices of Rev. Maurice Francis, of St. Paul’s United Church.
