Rose Koroluk 2020

Rose’s Obituary
Although it was not unexpected, it is still with heavy hearts the family of the late Rose Koroluk, beloved wife of the late Tony Koroluk, announce her passing at the Norquay Health Centre on May 9, 2020, at the age of 93 years. Rose lived a good life and for that they are forever grateful.
Rose was born May 6, 1927, on the family homestead near Sturgis, SK, to Pete and Mary (Bladiuk) Chernowsky. Her parents came to Canada from the ‘old country’ in the early 1900’s and homesteaded. Rose was raised on the farm and attended Cavell School.
On November 11, 1950, Rose married Anton (Tony) Koroluk and they purchased a homestead just north of Hyas and called this home, where they farmed and raised their family together.
Raising her large family, including three sets of twins and two single births, along with all her farm animals, as well as her love of gardening, was hard work but also her passion. Planting bedding plants and flower seeds, in addition to a garden full of vegetables, occupied a fair bit of time – and then came harvest. Harvesting, canning and freezing those vegetables to feed a family was a full-time job. Family and friends from all over were sure to pop in for Rose’s amazing Ukrainian cooking and usually left with a jar of her famous pickles. This work, completed with love, without ever complaining, was done by a very strong woman, who her family was very proud to call, Mom. Rose’s work ethic was reflected in every aspect of her life, including her marriage of 65 years to the love of her life, Tony. The family takes comfort in knowing that Rose and Tony are together once again.
In her children and grandchildren, Rose instilled a strong sense of love and honesty. These characteristics will live on. Profoundly grateful for the lessons she taught them and for the work ethic they learned from her, Rose’s family feels very blessed to have had such a strong, kind woman in their lives to help shape them into the people they are today. Even though she is no longer physically here, Rose will always be with them.
Her strength, among countless other qualities, are all things that will be missed dearly and fondly remembered by all those she touched throughout her life and by all who loved her.
Living the long life she did, Rose survived a great many people, notably, her husband of 65 years, Tony (2016); parents, Pete and Mary; brothers: John, Alex, Willie, Harry, Steve, and George; sister, Dora; stepbrothers, Metro and Mike; stepsister, Helen; and her daughter, Sylvia, in infancy.
Left to remember her and celebrate her life are her five sons: Gerald of Preeceville, Richard (Pat) of North Battleford, Randy (Karyn) of Regina, Brian of Hyas and Terry (Glennys) of Warman; two daughters: Sandra (Clarence Kateryniuk) of Hyas and Geraldine Karpyk of Warman; thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren – all looking forward to hearing loving and heartwarming stories of her for years to come; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Norquay Health Centre, for all their care and kindness while Rose was a resident. They are very thankful to those who brightened her life during the last two years at the Lodge, by stopping in for a visit.
Due to the global pandemic sparked by a coronavirus and the social restrictions in place, a private family graveside service will be held on May 15, 2020 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery (Anaka Cemetery), North of Stenen, SK, with Fr. Petro Tsenov officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Norquay Health Centre (Box 190 Norquay SK S0A 2V0) or to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery (Anaka Cemetery), Stenen District, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Rose Koroluk.
