Rosaleen Rose Gertrude Ramsey June 20th 2020

In loving memory of
Rosaleen (Rose)
Gertrude Ramsey
June 21, 1939 – June 20, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Rosaleen (Rose) Gertrude Ramsey at the age of 80.
Rose is survived by her children Marilyn (Lud), Pat, Dave (Teresa), Elaine (Bruce) Bob (Rachel), 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, brothers Tory (Pearl) and John. Predeceased by her son Jim, parents Bill and Gertie Tung, brothers Marvin, Harold, Dennis, sister Doreen and grandson Johnathon.
Mom passed away on Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at Monashee Mews in Lumby BC surrounded by her children.
Mom was Mom and Granny Rose to so many more than just her immediate family and she was loved by all that had an opportunity to meet and know her.
Mom had the biggest heart and had a way of making every occasion very special with her thoughtfulness. Your birthday wasn’t complete until she sang you Happy Birthday!! Many of her special ways and traditions continue amongst the family.
Mom had so many talents and hobbies; baking, bowling, canning, crocheting, dancing, sewing, singing and many of those talents like the traditions also continue in the family. She loved taking photos and videos, creating memories for all to look back on.
There wasn’t much she couldn’t do, and she loved doing things for others. Whether it was cooking for the haying crews at the farm or the large family gatherings, milking cows, all while raising 6 kids. In 1993 she granted her mom’s wish driving her from BC to Saskatchewan in a motorhome to visit family. It was an eventful trip complete with breakdowns, patching a leaky roof, blown tires, but she was a determined woman and not one to let something like that get in her way of someone else’s happiness and creating those special memories.
Singing was one of mom’s talents and she started at an early age. With mom playing accordion and her brother Tory on trumpet they would fill the Church with their music. This duet carried on into her later years as she and Tory enjoyed singing Karaoke together. No one could sing “Crazy” by Patsy Cline like mom.
There are many moments in mom’s life we could share, but a very special one was mom returning to high school in September 1982. She graduated with honors June 1983 and received 3 scholarships, she held the highest mark that year for the provincial math exam. Mom was almost a straight A student however she did receive a B in typing class. That could have been because she left during a test after being handed a note in class saying her 1st granddaughter had been born. All the students loved her and would flock around her and go to her for advice. She was that kind of a person, easy to approach and talk to and never judged. When mom walked across the stage to receive her diploma, she was told later it was the first time a single Grad student had received a standing ovation.
Mom would often say how much she loved being a mother and speak of all the joy and special moments throughout her life she got from raising her 6 children as well as all the special times with her grandchildren. She was so proud of each and every one of us.
Rose was born in Big River Saskatchewan. At the age of 5 the family moved to Vernon BC and from there in 1957 mom married Dick Ramsey and moved to Armstrong where she raised her family. We are so thankful that mom was able to spend her last year at Monashee Mews in Lumby. There she continued to make special friendships with the residents and staff as she continued to brighten everyone’s day with her stories and sense of humor.
We, the family, cannot express our gratitude or say enough about the care, compassion and love she received at Monashee Mews. They are truly amazing!!
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in Rose’s memory to McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Centre at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
Surely goodness
and love will follow
me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house
of the Lord forever
