Ronald “Big Ron” Wayne Kaminsky
It is with heart-breaking sadness that we announce Ronald Wayne Kaminsky passed away, surrounded by family, in the Regina General Hospital ICU on March 15th, 2020. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, blunt and witty humor, and undying love for his family. Ron was the type of man that would give you all he had and more, even in times when he had nothing. He was an active member of the community, devoted son, caring brother, loyal husband, and proud father.
Ron was born on September 14th, 1953 to parents Metro and Mary (Yaworski) Kaminsky in Canora, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest of four children and grew up on a farm near Stenen, Saskatchewan. He attended George Albert School followed by Sturgis Composite Highschool graduating in 1971. Ron then went on to post-secondary at the University of Saskatchewan excelling in Computer Science before making the decision to take over the family farm as a career for over 30 years. Over these years, he also worked at the pulp-mill in Prince Rupert, Hoechst Chemicals in Regina, various forestry and oilfield positions across Saskatchewan and Alberta, and Prairie Soil Services in Norquay.
Ron married Shelly King, the love of his life, on August 4th, 1984. They spent an amazing 35 years of marriage together and raised three beautiful children Tiffany, Cameron, and Jayden in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. Ron was a supportive father, constantly on the run taking the kids to hockey, football, volleyball, badminton, swimming, piano, and dance. He taught his children how to hunt and fish while instilling strong family values and Ukrainian traditions. Ron would do anything for his children and pushed them to always try their hardest and be the best at everything they did, all while supporting them through their failures.
Together, Ron and Shelly shared the pride and joy of raising their children and had many great memories with friends over the years. Some of his favourite times were annual all-inclusive vacations, holiday gatherings, and camping. Ron opened his home to many and loved hosting family and friends. He enjoyed playing football, swimming, slow-pitch, fishing, boating, ski-dooing, hunting, poker, Kaiser, and carpentry in his early and later days.
Ron was predeceased by father Metro Kaminsky (2007), father-in-law Ralph King (1973), and mother-in-law Mary King (2016).
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Shelly, their children Tiffany (Cam), Cameron (Julie), and Jayden (Madalyn), his mother Mary Kaminsky, brother Dennis (Colleen) Kaminsky, sisters, Marlene and Cynthia Kaminsky, brother-in-law Darcy (Donna) King, and sister-in-law Bonnie (Ward) Allen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
Private family prayers and viewing will be held at Preeceville Funeral Home for immediate family on March 21st at 7:00pm followed by an open invitation to extended family and close friends for a discretionary come and go viewing starting at 8:30pm. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a later date where all are welcome to come show their support.
Donations in memory of Ron may be made to the Preeceville Hospital, Regina General Hospital ICU, Diabetes Canada, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
