Obituary
With a very heavy heart, I sadly announce the passing of my beloved husband, Ronald Owen Coleman, which occurred on August 4, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Ron courageously battled cancer for the past 5 years. He was the son of the late Milford Charles and Grace (Sheffiled) Coleman. He was the grandson of Joseph Henry and Annie Bella (Green) Coleman of whom he adored.
Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed Golden Gloves boxing and hockey. He taught firearm and hunter safety courses. Ron was a wonderful, kind and loving husband. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
During the Swiss Air lll disaster in September 1998, Ron spent 59 days helping with the recovery mission. In September 1999, he was asked to be a pallbearer as well as a member of the honour guard for the interment of victims of Swiss Air Flight lll. Due to his professionalism, dedication and honour which was shown towards the families of the 229 victims, Ron was presented with a painting called “Ocean Spirits” by Alberta K Martin of Baywater, NS.
Ron was a 35-year veteran of Valley Search and Rescue helping to save many lives as well as doing recovery work. He was presented with an engraved gold watch in 2004.
Ron enjoyed spending hours working in his grandfather’s butcher shop. He was a dairy herdsman by trade who specialized in animal husbandry.
He worked tirelessly within his church serving as a Stewart and Trustee. His work with the poor and indigent is widely known.
Ron was very avid in his family history and especially interested in his early Quaker roots. Cole Harbour, NS was named in honour of his 5th generation great grandfather, Seth Coleman, who was a Nantucket Whaler who settled in Dartmouth, NS in the late 1700’s.
Ron is survived by his wife Deborah (Benjamin) Coleman, his sisters; Doris, Shirley, Linda and Lorraine, brothers; John, Darrell and Dale as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by his brothers; Charles and Laurie and sister Gloria.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Donations in Ron’s memory may be made towards Beaver Harbour Archives and Museum or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ronald Owen Coleman September 5 1937 August 4 2020 (age 82)..
