In Loving Memory of Hilda (Romilda) Pietrasiak, nee Vizzaccaro, 98 years. Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020 at Health Sciences North. Born March 10th, 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland. Daughter of Angelo Vizzaccaro and Elizabeth Callaghan Vizzaccaro, both predeceased. Survived by sons Richard Pietrasiak of Sudbury and Philip Pietrasiak (Julie) of Mississauga; grandchildren Christian, Ryan, and Chloe; nephews Louis and Tony Manzi; nieces Rita Benn and Theresa Manzi of London, England; and nieces Doreen Dewel, Elizabeth Callaghan, Joyce Rostron, and Barbara Callaghan of Victoria, BC. Predeceased by her husband Lucjan Pietrasiak and siblings Nicholas Black and Josephine Manzi of London, England, Ernie Vizzaccaro of North Bay, and Arthur Callaghan of Victoria.
Hilda survived the WWII bombing of London with her mother, and met Lucjan after the war. In 1952 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Sudbury where there was work, and they started a family. An animal lover, she spoke affectionately and proudly of her cats Mitsy and later Mickey. Hilda was proud of being a Scot and equally proud of her Irish and Italian heritage. Hilda was a lifelong hairdresser, having apprenticed in the family business. In later years, she revelled in her aqua fitness class at Cambrian Fitness, where she was christened with the nickname “Scotty”. With an endearing personality and undaunted Glasgow “street cred”, Hilda was a mighty force in a compact package, and she fearlessly travelled solo to England and B.C. several times to celebrate family events. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers involved in this journey, especially the nurses and PSWs at HSN, Bayshore, and Finlandia, and the first-rate attention of Dr. deBlacam.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or the OSPCA would be appreciated. Private family funeral service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury, on Saturday, November 7th, 2020. Interment in the family plot at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
