Obituary of Roger Bedard
Born on March 30, 1963 in Ottawa, Ontario. He died tragically in Otter Lake, Quebec on March 18, 2020, living life to the fullest, doing something he loved, and surrounded by friends. A man who enjoyed working with his hands, Roger was the founder of BEDCO Fencing and Decks and an award-winning tinsmith in the Local 47 Sheet Metal Workers. His legacy of work is displayed throughout the city of Ottawa and surrounding areas, something that he would proudly point out as you would drive by. Roger touched many lives with his easy smile, infectious laugh and love of life. He knew even in his short time on this Earth that everyday was a gift and that moments should never be taken for granted or opportunities should never be wasted. He will be remembered for his larger than life personality, his free spirit and welcoming warmth. Roger enjoyed travelling solo or with family and was happy to go wherever life would take him. He loved the great outdoors, fishing and boating. An avid hockey player (in what he dubbed his ‘Old Man’ or ‘Beer Buddy’ League), and Sens fan, Roger also enjoyed watching (and sleeping through) the Sunday Nascar race. A classic joker, Roger always had a story to tell. A home chef, Roger was a great cook and always managed to have something delicious on the stove or in the oven when visitors would stop by. His food brought people together (–his impression of the Swedish Chef was uncanny). Our hearts and our stomachs were always full. A father, brother, lover, mentor and friend he was known and is cherished by many.
Roger was predeceased by his parents Joseph Leo Bedard and Louise Ann Bedard (nee Wiebe). He was a proud, supportive and loving father to his daughter Kaylee. The middle brother, he is survived by Audwin (Julie-Anne), Rolland (Elaine), Lionel (Jane), Donelda (Joseph), Darlene (Jeffrey), Jennifer (Kenneth), Karen (Kevin) and Leo (Deanna), cousins, nieces, nephews and an extensive family from coast-to-coast. A “Richmond Boy” through and through, he will forever be in our thoughts and sorely missed.
Due to the extenuating circumstances related to COVID-19 a celebration of Roger’s life will be held at a later date. In these uncertain economic times, the family requests no donations or gifts and hopes that our strength and love as a collective is what brings us together to honour Roger in these tough times.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Roger
