RODNEY ERIC SMITH April 11 2020

It is with deep sadness that the family of Rod Smith announces his passing after a brief illness at the age of 74.
Rod will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ellen; son Jared (Jessica); son-in-law Craig; grandchildren: Madeline, Kai, and Erika; brother Lorne (Brenda) as well as many other relatives and close friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Lora.
Dad was a wonderful character, and his fantastic laugh (including big knee slaps) will be greatly missed. Due to the current gathering restrictions, we will be postponing Dad’s desire to have us throw him a big party, but we encourage all those who knew him to pour a rum & coke (or two) at happy hour in a toast to his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Youth Empowerment Support & Services (YESS), 9310 82 Ave, Edmonton, Alberta, T6C 0Z6.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of RODNEY ERIC SMITH April 11 2020..

  1. Dearest Ellen, Jared and Smith Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I express my sorrow and sympathy on the passing of my friend and business colleague Rod.

Our unique friendship started,50 years ago, with an introduction by another mutual business friend from the past Dennis Ellergodt, Vice-president of Canadian Home Assurance Company.

We jointly solved all insurance problems over the rum and cokes.

Rod lite up the room when he arrived, with his loud greeting and laugh; always setting the tone for the next hours together discussing family and Insurance business.

Yes….the slap on the knee when he laughed was his trademark.

I enjoyed and respected Rod because he was an honest, caring man with strong values. He loved his family, his friends, life and his work; in that order.

Our birthdays were March 8 and we celebrated many together but now I will celebrate with another rum and coke to toast my friend Rod.
