Obituary of Robert B. Thompson
THOMPSON – Robert B.
In acceptance lieth peace. Oh! My heart wilt thou be still. Let my restless worries cease and I’ll accept His will. Though this test be not my choice, it is His, therefore rejoice. In acceptance lieth peace. Today we share the news of the passing of a wonderful, loving husband, father, Poppa, brother and friend, Robert Bruce Thompson, 73 years young. Bob treasured his family above all else. He and his wife Jean loved each other deeply for all their nearly 51 years of marriage. His love for his three children and their spouses, Jim & Debbie, Fred & Sarah, Marie & Jay was immeasurable and unconditional. He gloried in his eight grandchildren Madison, Myles, Olivia, Ellsye, Isaac, Jeremy, Samuel and Lucas. He loved and appreciated his youngest brother David and his late brother Rick. He was the beloved firstborn of Herbert & Hazel Thompson (deceased), son-in-law of Helen & the late Frederik Niemeyer. Brother-in-law of Trieneke (Ted), John and the late Wilma Niemeyer. His intense loyalty, honesty, dependability and generosity will be missed by all who knew him. He valued his friends and acquaintances highly. Bob worked for Bell Canada for 40 years. He was an avid giver to the community through many local organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion, Canadian Military Heritage Museum, Kiwanis, Probus, Grand Erie District School Board, Home & School Association and the Children’s Safety Village. Bob was a patriotic Canadian, proudly serving in the 56th field regiment in Brantford as well as the US Marine Corp. Bob flew the Canadian flag on a daily basis. Our flag is now at half mast. He was an intellectual and historian, a ferocious reader who never shied away from a good debate. His prowess in the kitchen is unmatched, a natural born cook. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing & hunting throughout the years. The foundation of everything was his enduring faith in Christ Jesus and the sacrifice of our Savior for the salvation of all. Bob was free, open and always willing to talk about that faith.
~For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.~ Ephesians 2: 8-9
