Robert Stuart “Bob” Burgess
1953-2020
Burgess, Robert Stuart, “Bob”-North River, Age 66,
passed away peacefully Tuesday July 21, 2020 at the Colchester East
Hants Health Center, Truro in the palliative care unit.
Born and raised in Old Barns, he was the son of the late
Lester Eugene Burgess and Ruth Lillian Burgess (Lively). Bob
was surrounded by his wife and two sons, who adored and admired him
more than words can express.
He is survived by the love of his life of 46 years, Shelley
Marie Burgess (Angus) and two sons Kurtis (Krystle) North River, Kevin
(Cathy) and grandson Noah, who was the light of Papa’s eye,
Hilden. Brother Stephen (Darlene) Londonderry, Aunt Barb Dill
(Russell) Bible Hill, niece Jacqueline (New Brunswick), nephew
Mitchell. Bob was predeceased by his father Lester, mother
Ruth, step mother Joan, brother Stanley and grandparents Dart and Ella
Burgess.
Bob was a quiet man who had few wants or needs and was most
happy with family around and spending time at their cottage in Little
Bass River. He could fix anything that was put in front of him and
didn’t give up until it was put back together better then it
started. He served the North River community in various
aspects. He enjoyed helping others and volunteering his time even when
he was quite sick. He also enjoyed cruising the roads in his yellow
1973 Volkswagen Bug, which was his pride and joy. He is a member of
the North River Fire Brigade since 1994, former member of Knights of
Columbus, a Boy Scout leader for Beavers and Cubs.
Visitation will take place on Monday, July
27th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the
Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. A Firefighters
Tribute will take place on Tuesday, at 12:30, followed by funeral
service at 1:00 pm, in the Robie Street Cemetery, 125 Robie Street,
Truro, with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Due to Covid-19 and
Public Health requirements, a maximum of 250 people will be permitted
to attend and masks are required. Please bring your own chair,
practice physical distancing and register with one of the funeral
directors upon arrival is a must. Arrangements are under the direction
of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Donations in
memory may be made to the VON, Kane’s Kitchen or to St.
