Robert ‘Robin’ Stewart McDaniel passed away on November 22, 2020 in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 80 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Tanis (nee Pollock); daughter Kala (Richard); son, Chris (Stephanie); and eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Jessica, Aitana, Jay, Nicolas, Chris, Lia, and Liam. He will also be missed by extended family and friends.
Robin was born on June 12, 1940 in San Francisco, California to Caroline Stewart and E. Stewart McDaniel, and grew up in Vancouver, BC. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a BSc in Chemistry and Simon Fraser University with a PhD in organic chemistry. He worked at a variety of jobs during his career including middle school teacher, research chemist, university instructor, and systems analyst in addition to various consulting roles.
The most important things in Robin’s life were his family and his faith. He was an avid reader and loved to travel, especially in the Canadian Rockies. He enjoyed working in the Scouting program, doing genealogy, and celebrating the successes of his family and friends.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses, physicians and allied health professionals who assisted with Robin’s care over the last couple of years at Red Deer Home Care, Michener Extendicare, Units 22, 32 and 33 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, and Red Deer Hospice.
At Robin’s request, no funeral service will be held; however, family and friends are encouraged to share memories and stories about Robin. The family will be collecting the stories and memories to share with his grandchildren in the future.
