Robert Arthur MacQuade
Friends and acquaintances will
be saddened to learn that Robert “Bob” MacQuade peacefully
died on Monday, January 6, 2020 at home.
Bob was born in Cliffordville,
Victoria County, NB in 1931, the son of Mabel (Austin) and Marshall
McQuade.
Bob was married to Margaret
(Quartermain) MacQuade for over 62 years. He will be missed by his
talented daughters, Catherine (Douglas Fraser) of Calgary, Nancy
(Gerry deceased in 2009) Webb and Elizabeth (deceased 2018), Village
of Gagetown. He was proud of his granddaughters, Gillian (Fraser)
Hogg, Hillary and Leslie Fraser, and especially enjoyed his great
granddaughters, Eleanor, Amelia and Bridget through Skype and photos.
His brother was Wilbert “Bill” (Dorothy deceased 2019)
McQuade of Sanford, Maine and niece, Debra and nephew,
Darrell.
As he studied towards his
Chartered Accountancy degree, he was active in the Jay-C’s
“Junior Achievement” and soon was on a committee to organize
the Moncton Music Festival, which continues today. His years as a CA
led him into the business world, where as a respected businessman, Bob
owned and operated Colpitts the Stationer Ltd. in various locations in
Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton, as well as B.E. Smith Ltd., where
Bob often held a “coffee club”
gathering.
He attended First Baptist
Church and was involved in many leadership roles as a Deacon, SS Supt.
and Church Treasurer. In the broader Baptist world, he served as
President of Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada, Treasurer of the
Baptist Foundation, President of Canadian Baptist Federation and Chair
of the Canadian Baptist Ministries. He was also a member of the
Finance Commission of the Baptist World
Alliance.
Over the years, Bob took an
interest in various community organizations, having been Chairman of
the Town Planning Commission, Downtown Merchants Association and was
Chair of The Moncton Hospital Board. He was President of the Moncton
Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award. In later years, he
attended the Probus Club. His charitable activities included New Life
Mission, Pregnancy and Wellness Centre, the Salvation Army, Crandall
University and Acadia Divinity College, to name a
few.
The family wish to sincerely
thank the various members of Extra Mural for their professional,
compassionate care. They made life much easier for
Bob.
His funeral will be held at
Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on
Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Dr. J. Richard
Jackson officiating. An opportunity for visitation will take place on
Friday, January 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and during the reception time
following the service. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial
Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to First Baptist Church, Canadian Baptist Ministries,
Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a memorial of the donor’s
