Richard Russell Fisher 19442020

Richard Russell Fisher
1944-2020
RICHARD RUSSELL FISHER passed away peacefully at the Upper River
Valley Hospital on Aug. 5,2020 with his family at his bedside, born
Sept.22,1944 in Bath NB youngest son of Ruth and Russell Fisher of
Oakland NB. Loving husband of 52 years and best friend to Patricia
(DeMerchant) Fisher. Father to 3 special sons Ritchie (Wendy), Dana
(Berdie) and Randy (Amanda). His grandchildren have provided many
years of enjoyment and he was very proud of all their
accomplishments. Loved watching gymnastics with Denise and basketball
with Andrew, watching Katelyn ski and donning a pair himself after 40
years away from the hill, talking to Bradley about mechanical things
and his days at work this summer. Watching Ruthie compete with her
horse Revv, watching Rhys as he learns about the farm and tells
stories about animals, getting to know Katelyn’s friend Thomas.
He leaves to mourn his brother Clinton Fisher, his sisters, Rowena
Tompkins and Arlene Ebbett. His nephews and nieces, Charles, David,
Nora, Debra, Janet, Nelda, Dana, MaryAnn, Douglas, Donald, Alden,
Allen, Ivan, Jackie, Tammy, Cristy, and Jason. He spent many hours of
enjoyment with them while they were growing up. He had many great
nephews and nieces. Brother in law Terry DeMerchant (Caroline)
Fredericton, Dennis DeMerchant (Jane) Florenceville-Bristol. Judy
Cullins ( Bobby), Raymah Paisley ( William), Kenneth Cullins
(Jackie).
Richard grew up in Oakland and spent his lifetime on the family farm
producing, potatoes, strawberries, wheat, oats, soybean, corn and
barley. In earlier years raised herford cattle, sheep and present day
limousin cattle. Many years were spent farming with his Dad and
Brother and then his 3 sons. He enjoyed teaching them and watching
them grow into the ambitious men they are today. Many hours were spent
in the fields, potato house, attending auction sales, and tractor
pulls. After Ritchie chose his career as a professional trucker and
Dana chose computer technology, Randy and he carried on farming
planting mainly potatoes and operating a wash and packaging line. One
spring they racked out 100 tractor trailer loads with minimal help.
Randy has been farming with his Dad for 28 years and even though he
was unable to help with the planting, he was able to make suggestions
as Randy and Dana planted the 2020 crops.
He drove tractor trailer for Day and Ross under Gary and Wayne Foster
and later as owner operator worked for Sunbury under Gordon Moore. He
never lost his love of trucking and many drives ended at the local
truck sale yards. As trucking schedules became harder to manage he
turned to the big Yellow bus, where he worked for 34.5 years,
transporting students who knew him as “ Fisher” to school
and on bus trips. He didn’t always know their proper name but
had his own special name for each one, he always said the he enjoyed
each day.
Even though he worked hard, he always had time for play, travel
included 2 cruises a trip to Jamica, the Dominican, and several trips
to Cuba. Snowmobiling was winter fun for the whole family for many
years and then travel on a Goldwing seemed the only way to go. He
loved making new friends and spending time with old friends. He loved
family time and could be the first one down the water slide or the
tubing hill in winter, took up downhill skiing just to be a part of a
family outing. During summer campouts on the front lawn, even though
he said he was not going to sleep in the tent, he was always the first
out in the morning. Loved family meals and always made sure that there
was enough pie for dessert. He always looked to the future.
