Obituary
Richard “Ricky” Walsh
North Sydney
It is with deep sadness that the family of Richard Walsh, “Ricky” as he was known to all who knew him, announce his passing on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on March 30, 1957, he was the son of the late Bernard and Agnes (MacDonald) Walsh. Ricky enjoyed a long career with Marine Atlantic, retiring in 2012 due to ill health. He often spoke about how kind his co-workers were to him during his illness. A quiet and kind man by nature, Ricky loved travelling the back roads and the highlands of Cape Breton. He was a true Cape Bretoner at heart and felt blessed to live here. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Ricky is survived by his wife Nancy (Ellis) and sons Michael and Tommy, as well as extended family in Fort McMurray, Halifax, Sydney and North Sydney.
Besides his parents Bernard and Agnes, he was predeceased by his brother Perry and sister Laurnice Walsh.
A private family graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Sydney under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A Celebration of Life for Ricky will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or to a local animal shelter. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
