Richard Dick Gilligan Friday January 17th 2020

Passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the age of 83 years. Richard Gilligan, retired from Best Foods (previously the Canada Starch Company) after a 42 year career and was proud of his final role as the Quality Control Manager for the Lab. Many will remember Dick as a guitar player and country singer playing at local venues for many years.
Beloved husband of Jan (nee Pontbriand) and dear father of Pat Gilligan (Kim), Tim Gilligan (Anita), Jane McDonald (Paul Carroll), Terri Dougall (Stephen) and Tom Anderson (Lorie). Fondly remembered by his grandchildren William (Jasmine), Ryan (Paige), Matthew (Caitlin), Christopher (Jen), Robert, Todd, Heather (Andy), Michael (Michelle) and Laura. Great grandfather to Claire, Miles, Cole, Bennett and Jack. Dick was predeceased by his parents Catherine (Nellie) and Garnet Gilligan.
Special thanks to Dr. Ashe, the team from Local Health Network and the Bayshore Nurses and Personal Support Workers who assisted with home care in Dick’s final days.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland on Wednesday, January 22nd from 1 until 4 pm. Interment will follow for family at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged.
