Merrick ; Richard
Local artist, Richard (Dick) Allen Merrick, who made Westport his home 42 years ago with his artistic wife Pat, left this world April 8, 2020 in his 89th year to join his Lord. He is survived by his second wife of many years, Joyce Kayser with whom he spent time further developing an island home on Newboro Lake. Dick will be missed by his wife Joyce, daughters Susan Wells and Karen McEachern, sons-in-law Richard Wells and Rev. Rodger McEachern, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Dick Merrick’s most lasting contribution to his community can be seen on Highway 42 where a two-storey tall, colourfully painted Bass built out of pop cans sways in the wind next to Norris Bait & Tackle. A celebration of life will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church in Westport and Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto at a later date following the end of the pandemic.
