Reverend Liborio Tavares Tuesday January 7th 2020

With loving remembrance and heavy hearts, the family of Rev. Liborio Tavares announces his peaceful passing on January 7, 2020, at the age of 86, at the Houses of Providence.
Rev. Liborio Tavares was the first of seven children to be born to Rosa and Liborio Tavares in San Miguel, Azores.
Rev. Liborio Tavares is predeceased by his parents and 2 siblings. He will be dearly missed by his 4 surviving siblings, brother in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was honoured to be the Godfather to all his nephews and nieces and will therefore be lovingly remembered as ”Padrinho” by all.
Rev. Liborio Tavares was Ordained a priest on June 15, 1958 in the Azores. After years of priestly ministry in the Azores he moved to Canada in 1971 where he ministered as Associate pastor at St. Anthony’s parish, Associate pastor and then Pastor at St. Helen’s parish and finally as Pastor for over 25 years at St. Mary’s parish in Toronto. After retiring in 2008, Rev. Liborio Tavares was in residence at St. Mary’s Senior Residence in Brampton.
Rev. Liborio Tavares had many titles – he was a son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather, priest, pastor and friend to many. But the important title he held most dear was “Christian” – he was a follower of Christ. We pray that he may be given the gift of eternal life with his Saviour Jesus Christ, Mother Mary and all the saints of God.
‘Well done, good and faithful servant…. enter into the joy of your master.’ Mt 25:21
