Born November 2, 1933 in Java, Indonesia. Passed away on the Feast of the Holy Family, December 29, 2019 in Burnaby, BC at age 86.
Fr. Benno Burghardt was ordained as a priest on May 15, 1971 after his theological studies at the Catholic University of St. Paul in Ottawa. After years of preparing souls for heaven, he also received his last Sacraments. He served in the Archdiocese of Vancouver as assistant pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Chaplain for St. Paul’s Hospital, St. Paul’s Singles Club and as Judge for the Marriage Tribunal. Most importantly, he served almost 30 years as Pastor/Parish Priest at Holy Family German Parish. Besides serving the German and English speaking congregation, he also took care of the Hispanic community in its earliest days.
Prayer Vigil will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Holy Family Parish (4851 Beatrice Street, Vancouver). Viewing will follow the prayers.
A Pontifical Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Holy Rosary Cathedral (646 Richards Street, Vancouver). Entombment to follow at Gardens of Gethsemani at 2:00 p.m.
