RICHIBOUCTOU-VILLAGE, NB
– It is with great sadness that Alberta (Thibodeau) Maillet
announces the passing of her beloved husband of 49 years of marriage,
René Maillet, 101, at the Rexton Lions Nursing Home on
Sunday, December 27th, 2020. René was
born in Richibouctou-Village during the Spanish Flu pandemic, which
was present in the village at the time of his birth and the Lord came
to take him to his eternal home during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
René was the son of the late Théotime and Alma
(Arsenault) Maillet.
In his younger years, René worked with his
father as a lumberjack, farmer and fisherman. From 1942 to 1946, he
joined “The National Resources Mobilization Act”. Upon his
return from service, he became the owner of his boat and was a
fisherman for 37 years. During the winter season, he worked at the
Saint John port for 20 years. René was a parishioner of
St-Antoine-de-Padoue, Richibouctou-Village and was also a member of
the Golden Age club.
Besides his wife, Alberta, René leaves to
mourn his two brothers, Henri (Genéva) of Ste-Anne-de-Kent
and Guy (Lina) of Memramcook; as well as his sister, Doris Leger
(Henri) of
Richibouctou-Village.
René is also survived by his nephew,
Hector Dunn (Juliette) of Richibouctou-Village, as well as many other
nieces and nephews from the Maillet and Thibodeau families and one
brother-in-law, Eymard Thibodeau (Fidélice) of
Dieppe.
Besides his parents, René was predeceased
by his brothers, Emilien, Zoël (Melba), Henri (in infancy)
and Antoine (at birth) and his sisters, Mabel (at birth), Evangeline
(in infancy), Marie (Gérard), Elmire (Ray) and
Délima (Hector and
Elias).
As
per family wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January
5th, 20201 at 2:00pm,
St-Antoine-de-Padoue Roman Catholic Church, Richibouctou-Village.
Following COVID-19 guidelines, masks are mandatory at all times at the
church and we ask that everyone respects social distancing. If so
desired, donations made to the St-Antoine-de-Padoue Roman Catholic
Church in René’s memory would be appreciated by
the family.
Arrangements are in the professional care of
Thompson’s Funeral Home, Richibucto.
