Obituary of Raymond Herman Benjamin Berends
With broken hearts we share the news of the passing of our father, Raymond Berends. Dad passed on October 11, 2020 surrounded by all he loved and was proud of within his home. There is a silence, a void where his laughter would normally be heard and a loss of time that can never be recovered.
Born in Bondowoso, Indonesia, moving to Almelo, The Netherlands and retiring in Calgary, Alberta, Raymond lived a life to be remembered.
Educating himself in school and excelling in trades, Ray decided to build a successful business widely recognized as the owner and gunsmith of The Rifleman’s Shoppe.
An avid hunter, outdoor explorer, wildlife adventurer, nature lover, music enthusiast, quad owner, knife craftsman and so much more that all his interests cannot be named as he enjoyed a life time creating memories.
He married in Holland to Jeanette and was blessed with two sons, Johnny and Billy. Where his marriage would not endure but evolve into a friendship, he eventually met Enith and shared three children, Martinus, Audrey and Tracy. Their marriage ended but then began a friendship that lasted test of time. His joy was exuberant as his children added to his family with grandchildren, Samantha, Melissa, Amileo, Alexis, Makenna, Tayfun and Dunya. No children could be cherished more than his grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, October 29th, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Cemetery at 1605 100 St SE, Calgary, AB
