Raymond’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Eli Roberts Payne, on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020, at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in Norris Pt, NL, in his 88th year.
Beloved husband of Marjorie nee Decker for 61 years. Cherished father of Daniel (Lola), Dennis (Elaine), Pattilou (Chad) and Chuck. He will be forever loved and missed by his grandchildren Margaret(Garth), Mark(Ivy), Joanne(Bryan) and Shauna(John). Great grandpa to Emma, Gavin, Madden, Hannah, Marcus, Jackson, and Grace. Ray will be fondly remembered by his sister Joyce (Wilson) and brother Sterling (Martha). In-laws Rachel Roberts, Margaret Payne, Tom (Marie), Hughie (Leona), Harry (Christine), Jeanette (Bim) and Curtis (Sandra)
Ray is predeceased by his parents Freeman and Julia, brothers Leslie and Hedley, Sister Rhoda, nephew’s baby Nicolle and Baby Sparks, parent’s in-law Philp and Elsie, brother- in-law Coyley, sister-in-law Peggy, and fur babies Tippy and Burger. Also remembered and loved by Eileen, Cassie and Dawn. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Ray enjoyed many, many things. Such as his dogs, fishing, trapping, wood cutting, gardening, reading, singing and playing his favorite Martin guitar. He was well known as a whiskey connoisseur, duct tape master, amateur caulker, and a novice inventor. But what Ray enjoyed most was spending weekends with the love of his life, Marjorie, their family and friends playing cards, telling tall tales and spending quality time together at their cabin on Lomond River. Ray was a kind, humble, generous and gentle man who was once scolded by the love of his life for giving away his new Christmas boots and keeping the old ones. He was a renowned and well respected businessman who despised liars and thieves! Also known for his Archie Bunker attitude, he told it like it was, whether you wanted to listen or not. Ray died knowing that John Wayne was the best actor, Louis L’Amour was the most acclaimed writer and Wilf Carter was the greatest singer and guitar man who had ever lived. Ray touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice in Raymond’s memory would gratefully appreciated by the family.
