Death Notice
GLADWELL, Raymond John – Passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2020 just one week after celebrating his 87th birthday and his 65th wedding anniversary. Ray had many accomplishments in his life, but none was more important to him than his family.
Beloved husband of Shirley (Woolford). Devoted father of Kathryn and James Barten; James and Kathleen Gladwell; Janet and Henry Mutsaers and Susan and Troy Edginton.
Special grandfather of Sonya and Joshua Witteveen (Aeden); Sylena and Mark Gignac (JJ, Ellie, Beau); Brian Mutsaers; Katelyn and Christopher Myatt (Dagny); Lisa and Brent O’Reilly (James, Teddy); Steven and Amy Barten (Margaret, Adriana), Graham and Jasmine Gladwell (Ryia, Shire, Aro); Colleen Gladwell; Matthew Edginton and Brendan Edginton. Dear brother of Robert Gladwell (late Shirley); brother-in-law of Beverly Woolford (late Bill) and Lynda and Al Heurter. Loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friend to Al and Carol Kish.
After working as an electrician with the CNR Ray devoted his life to education first as a teacher, then administrator and superintendent with the Thames Valley District School Board. After his retirement he spent 6 years as the Executive Director of Westminster College where he developed the Society for Learning in Retirement program which continues to run to this day. It is due to his vision that seniors continue to have this opportunity for learning.
A special thank you to everyone who has been involved with Ray’s care over the past several months at Amica.
Ray touched many lives throughout the years and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A private family funeral service will be conducted at Harris Funeral Home followed by interment at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ray Gladwell 2020..
