It is with sadness that the family of the late Phyllis Wavey Butt (nee Coish), age 76 of Springdale, NL announces her passing, surrounded by her family from the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, on Sunday, March 15, 2020.
Phyllis was born and raised in Deer Lake. Later in Stephenville, she met the love of her life, Gordon, and on November 28, 1960 they were married. Ever since then they loved spending time together and enjoying life. Although she did not want to join Gordon in flying his own airplane, she loved to watch and feed the birds. She was always happy to join him on the water with many great memories made in Long Island, NL.
She spent many years in the service industry and found great joy in cooking for and serving others. She introduced many Mainland and American guest to Newfoundland cuisine.
Phyllis had a generous heart for others and was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was blessed to spend her last couple of years enjoying her water view, watching the birds, making new friends in the beautiful town of Springdale.
Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Lucy and Clayton Coish; son Dwayne Butt; granddaughter Victoria Legge; parents-in-law Sadie and Phillip Butt; sisters Evelyn Janes, Pearl Bailey; brothers Wesley Coish, Milton Coish; sisters-in-law Grace Noel, Shirley Butt; brothers–in-law Hugie Noel, Walter Butt.
She leaves to remember the wonderful life she lived, her husband Gordon Butt; daughters Rhonda Bennett, Susann (Doug) Legge; sons Brian (Cynthia) Butt, Jim Butt; grandchildren Susan Bennett, Sabrina (Michael) Costello, Jay Butt, Holly (Jason) Butt, Alec Bennett, Jace Legge, Jazmyne McCarthy, Dustin McCarthy; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, as well as many other family members and friends. She will surely be missed by her family and friends, but not forgotten.
The family would like to extend special thanks for the outstanding care provided by her Home Support staff and Health Care staff.
It was Phyllis’s wish that cremation take place. A funeral service will be held sometime this week from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale. The time and day will be announced when it becomes available.
