Heaven gained another angel on Saturday, October 31, 2020. After a brief stay in Red Deer Hospice Phyllis passed away peacefully with her husband of 69 years, Bob, and her three daughters and one of her granddaughters by her side.
Phyllis was the youngest of seven children, born May 28, 1930, to Sigurd and Isabelle Broughton. She grew up in the Meeting Creek-Edberg area in Central Alberta. After completing her business training, she went to work in the Camrose office of Calgary Power where she met her soul mate and love of her life, Bob. After marrying in 1951, during Bob’s lengthy career with Calgary Power, later TransAlta Utilities, they spent the next several years moving around the province, starting their lives together in Calgary (where Carol was born), then Olds (where Marion was born), Hardisty, and Blairmore (where Sharon was born) before moving to Sylvan Lake. In 1971 they moved to Red Deer where Bob was Division Supervisor, then Camrose, returning to Red Deer in 1982 where he retired as Division Manager.
After retiring, they spent 25+ years as snowbirds, spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona, and summers in Red Deer. Music was a big part of their lives, with Phyllis playing the piano and Bob, the trumpet. She enjoyed nothing more than having the whole family gathered. Both Bob and Phyllis were avid golfers and spent a lot of their summers travelling around Alberta exploring different golf courses. Phyllis won the Marg Ward Memorial Trophy for a provincial ladies golf tournament in 1981.
In 2018 they moved to Timberstone Mews, where she resided until her passing. Phyllis was very active with the Timberstone community, participating in crib tournaments, game nights, carpet bowling, shuffleboard and other activities.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters, Carol (Jim), Marion (Len), and Sharon; seven grandchildren, Rob (Nira), Heather, Jena (Ryan), Jesse (Sarah), Lindsay, Jennifer and Kristen (Tim); and nine great-grandchildren, Anjali, Amara and Rheya; Zachary, Mikayla and Jordan; and Catharina, Gabriella and Henry.
Phyllis will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 3S6.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Phyllis I Munson October 31st 2020..
