Obituary
Peter Melnyk is the man who I fell in love with almost 40 years ago ❤️ He and I spent those wonderful years sharing our dreams and adventures with one another, holding each other’s hands along every step of the way. His kindness, humour and gentleness were a part of everyday life for me and the joy of both our lives, our son Nick. He was a father to his son like no other, circling his love around him, nurturing him to be the confident, loving and independent man Nick is today.
Peter had many long-time friendships of over 40+ years, a reflection of his wonderful qualities and the happiness within him that he shared with all his friends.
On the morning hours of March 1st, 2020, Peter was taken from his family after a short but heroic battle with cancer. Before Peters passing, we as a family agreed that our life together was one of so much love, joy and laughter that each day after his passing should be no different. So, take this day to remember his laughter and love in your friendship with him.
Peter was a loving and supportive son and brother. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, his son Nicholas and wife Joelle, his mother Polly, sister Josie and many cousins
Peters wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered in Skaha Lake Park so he could see the sun rise and set on the lake as we did many times on our lakeside walks. In lieu of a service, Peter wants you to come sit on a bench in Skaha Lake Park whenever you’re in Penticton and share an ice cream and your memories with him in the beautiful sunshine of the Okanagan ☀️ Oh and also he wanted you to know his favourite ice cream is anything with chocolate
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Southern Interior Rotary Lodge in Kelowna whose kindness and services lifted some of the heavy burdens of cancer during his treatments ❤️

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Peter John Melnyk July 18 1952 March 1 2020 (age 67)..
