Peter Boudreau Doubleday
1956-2020
DOUBLEDAY, Peter Boudreau. It is
with a very shattered heart that I tell you that Peter Doubleday of
Aspen, N.S. has passed on September 9, 2020 after a rough battle with
Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 64. Pete was born in
Purcell’s Cove, later moving with his family to Herring Cove
where he became a true Herring Cover! He loved it by the ocean hearing
the buoys ringing and smelling the salt water. He was the son of Helen
Doubleday (Sutherland) and the late Clifford Doubleday. Pete chose to
stay at home during the final days of his illness to be able to have
his wife Margaret by his side and to continue to enjoy his beautiful
view from his deck on Wallace Lake. Pete thoroughly enjoyed all the
wildlife he had in his very own yard. He was amazed at the Eagles
soaring over the yard and hearing the loons calling on the lake and
watching the deer and bobcats visit. He did curse the beavers though!
Pete tried his hand at various jobs over the years starting
work at a very young age at the Hyland Theatre. He
eventually ended up at the City of Halifax as a carpenter in 1990. He
worked there until 2015 when he finally retired to his beautiful home
that he and his wife built together on Wallace Lake. Lots of friends
and family helped him complete his retirement home and lots of great
memories were created. Pete chose to retire in Aspen as it was the
perfect place to continue to enjoy his fishing and hunting and 4
wheeling runs on the trails as he thoroughly enjoyed throughout his
life. Pete made friends wherever he went and with whomever he met. He
can always be remembered by his big old smile that showed all his
teeth, and the stories he could tell you. Give him a drink and oh he
could pull the memories out and tell you a story of any event he was
part of and usually caused a good laugh with whoever was listening.
Pete and Margaret did lots of camping over the years and especially
enjoyed the camping trips with his 3 grandsons, Adrian, Ashton and
Codey from Alberta. Pete as well enjoyed his camp on Long Lake and the
special weekends when his grandson, Ryan went with him. Pete looked
forward to the annual visits from his son, Stephen from Alberta and
enjoyed the time he spent with his son, Richard when he returned home
for six months, and of course all the boat trips on the Commotion and
Sea of Life with daughter, Tricia and “sin” in law, Pete
took with him lots of fond memories of all the Christmas parties at
Rick’s garage, the get togethers at Barry’s shed
and all the bike runs in Ketch Harbour back to the camps with the
bunch. Pete always had a special place in his heart for Beagles and
was very rarely without one as a pet over the years. He leaves behind
Zeus who will miss him for sure. Left to carry on his memories are his
best friend, soul mate and loving wife Margaret (Borden) of almost 47
years of marriage; sons, Stephen (Carol Holmes), Richard, and
daughter, Tricia (Stevie Field). As well left to carry on his memories
are grandsons, Ryan D’Arcy (Kendra Dinham), Adrian Doubleday, Ashton
Doubleday and Codey Doubleday, and great- granddaughter, Rylin Darcy.
Pete also leaves behind to carry on his memories, his mother, Helen
Doubleday (Sutherland), brothers, Clifford (Bobby) and Karen
Doubleday, Danny and Lynn Doubleday, Daren and Melissa Doubleday as
well as his favorite “in law” family members, Bill and Donna
Borden, Bruce and Jane Borden, David and Carolyn Borden, Kevin and
Anne Borden and Donald Borden, along with several nieces and nephews,
aunts and uncles and his many friends. Pete was predeceased by his
father, Clifford (Sonny) Doubleday, sister- in- law, Sharon Williams
and brother- in- law, John Borden. Cremation has taken place and
Pete’s ashes will remain at his home with his
wife. As per Pete’s request, there will be no
funeral service or burial. However, Pete’s wishes are that
everyone get together and have a good old kitchen/deck party for him.
