It is with immense sadness that we, the family of LUCILLE IRENE PERRY, announce her passing on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the age of 96 years.
She is survived by her sons Kent (Monika) Perry, Donald Perry (Marnie) and Cameron (Heather) Perry; daughter Lynda (Derek) Routley; sister Jean Welsh, brothers-in-law Gerard (Birthe) Perry and Dwight (Carol) Perry; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews, both in Canada and the US.
She is predeceased by her husband William Harold Perry, parents Cary and Irene McKanna, brother Robert and sister-law Millicent McKanna, brother-in-law Glenn (Beverly) Perry, father-in-law Harold Perry and mother-in-law Vina Koenen.
Mom was born in Benalto, Alberta on October 8,1923. She was the eldest child of Cary and Irene McKanna. Throughout her childhood, her family moved around southern Alberta, residing in Benalto, Eckville, Rosemary, Spring Coulee and Nobleford. After marriage in 1945, she and dad lived in Chin, Calgary, Lethbridge and Coaldale. She was married for 52 years. After dad passed away, she moved to Okanagan Falls, B.C. for five years and then back to Lethbridge.
Mom became a teacher at the age of 20 years old and taught school for 20 years.
Mom loved to travel and see new places. She and dad travelled to Texas, Arizona, Hawaii and California. She always wanted to go to Europe but work and having a family got in her way. After Dad died, she and her cousin, Phyllis Morache took a one week cruise to the Caribbean. She really enjoyed that cruise so much that she took her whole family on a cruise to Alaska a couple of years later. She was a very giving mother and believed in fairness.
Mom also liked to read. She could read a novel a week which we found impressive. She loved to do crosswords and studied foods and their effects on the body and always had a positive attitude. She attended the University of Lethbridge for some summer courses in ceramics and geology, and was an excellent painter. She painted many, many pictures and we are so blessed to have several of them in our homes. They will be cherished forever. She leaves a void in the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Perry Lucille October 08 1923..
