Obituary
With his wife of 64 years by his side, Paul Patrick Amyotte passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his home in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He was 84 years old.
Paul leaves behind his beloved wife Gisele, sons Denis (Dolly) Amyotte and Rick (Karen) Amyotte, daughters Joceline Amyotte and Lisa (Donald) Lawson, sister Therese (Gilbert) Rancourt, and grandchildren Adam, Erin, Luc, Jennifer, and Nicolle.
Paul was born in Bonfield, Ontario to parents Patrick and Aurore (nee Savard) Amyotte, the youngest of 12 siblings. He and Gisele moved to Wawa, Ontario in 1956, where they raised their children and Paul worked for 33 years at Algoma Steel Corporation.
He loved Northern Ontario’s lake country or “God’s Country” as he so lovingly called it, tending to his yard and garden, a lengthy Canadian Tire trip, and a good slice of pecan pie.
He will be remembered by those who loved him as a total character. A stubborn, outspoken, cheeky man with a sweet tooth, Paul could get a laugh out of anyone, including the healthcare providers who cared for him in his final months.
No service will be held at this time; Paul wished for his remains to be buried alongside his parents’ in Bonfield, and his family will carry out his wishes at a future date. We encourage friends of Paul to raise a glass with loved ones to his memory.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
