Paul’s Obituary
After a blessed 90 years of life, Paul Gazdewich passed away suddenly at the Kamsack Hospital on February 14, 2020.
Surviving and left to cherish his memory are his sister, Anita Mykytiuk; brother-in-law, Paul Hudye; sister-in-law, Olga Gazdewich and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anastasia (Watral) Gazdewich; brothers: Mike, Pete, John and Matt; sisters: Anne Bilous, Mary Rudy, Pauline Hudye and Stephania Gazdewich; brothers-in-law: Harry Bilous, Steve Rudy and Michael Mykytiuk and sisters-in-law, Helen Gazdewich and Helen E. Gazdewich.
Paul was born on May 13, 1929 in Norquay, SK. He attended South Willow Grove School and completed high school at St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton, SK. Paul was a lifelong farmer having taken over the family farm outside Norquay, SK. In his younger years, he was a grain and cattle farmer and later downsized into grain farming exclusively.
A dedicated farmer, mechanic and carpenter, Paul was a veritable jack of all trades.
He worked his own land well into his seventies and though the work was hard, he never complained and took pride in all that he accomplished. He loved to cook and would often have friends and family over to enjoy a hearty home cooked meal in his spotless home.
Paul was a kind soul and was always available to lend a helping hand. He treated his family, neighbours and everyone he met throughout his life with the utmost respect.
Well known for his huge gardens and their remarkable produce, he always shared their bounty with neighbours and local charitable organizations. Though a lifelong bachelor, Paul was blessed with many nieces and nephews that were very special to him.
Paul was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Norquay, SK. He was a man of deep faith, conviction and quiet servitude. He very much lived and practiced his life by the Ten Commandments as given to Moses from God on Mount Sinai.
Treasure him, God, in Your garden of Rest.
In Paul’s honor, Divine Liturgy was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020, from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Norquay, SK, with Rev. Fr. Warren Dungen, as celebrant. Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery, Yorkton, SK.
