Obituary of Patrick McCormick
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather. Patrick Gerard Thomas McCormick, on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 surrounded by family & friends. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas & Alice (Farrell), his sister, Anne Mary McCormick, brothers-in-law, Ray & Greg White and his nephew, Stephen McCormick. Also predeceased by extended family members William Sinnott, Donald Sinnott and Leo Walsh.
Leaving to mourn his soul mate and partner Barb Woolridge and Elizabeth McCormick (White), mother of his children, Cynthia (Paul Froude), Jackie (Joe Whiffen), Paddy (Krista), Colin (Paula) and stepdaughter, Madonna (Eric Furlong). Grandchildren Leo, Allison (Kyle Penney), Anna, Catherine, Maria, Natalie, Patrick, Jack, Grace, Colin & Olivia. Great grandchildren, Sophie and Patrick Penney. Brothers, John (Doris deceased) and Michael (Marie).
Also Barb’s children, Sean (Debbie), Tracy (Marcus Hann) and Lisa (Michael Best), along with Barb’s grandchildren, D.J, Morgan, Emma, McKenna and Barb’s mother and close friend, Mary Sinnott and together with Barb’s brothers and sisters, Eddie (Daphne), Robert (Rosalie), Wayne (Maryann), Bev, Trudy (Dave Pearce), Darlene (Derrick Ford) and sister-in-law Donna Sinnott.
Also remembering Pat are his special buddies. Randy Piccott, who enjoyed his summer drives in the Mustang convertible and being with Pat at his cabin. Paddy and Louie Hennessey, along with Johnny and Mary Stacey, who often traveled with Pat and Barb on their many trips.
Dad was a devoted Union leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of his fellow Union members. He was always a strong and passionate advocate for those men and women whom he represented. His extensive career spanned over four decades as Business Manager of Sheet Metal Workers’ Union Local 512, Laborer’s International Union of North America Local 1208 and Hotel & Restaurant Workers’ Union Local 779. His dedication to the Union movement lead to his election as President of the Newfoundland & Labrador Building and Construction Trades Council, which office he held from 2009 – 2017. Under Pat’s leadership, the NLBCTC donated significant amounts of money to the Health Care System in Newfoundland and Labrador and various other worthwhile charities, whose contributions will benefit the people of Newfoundland and Labrador for years to come.
Also, on a personal level, Pat supported many worthwhile charities and organizations such as The Health Care Foundation of St. John’s, The Trinity Conception Placentia Health Care Foundation, the Gathering Place, Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Food Sharing Association, Vincent de Paul Society, Roman Catholic Archdiocese, the Anglican Church, Salvation Army, United Church, the Albert Phillips Jr. Memorial Fund and various other organizations in Buchans, NL. His legacy will have a continuing impact on the lives of many people through his generous professional and personal contributions over many years.
Pat enjoyed playing softball as a member of the St. John’s Oldtimers Softball Association. He was also an avid moose hunter & fisherman. He enjoyed several fishing trips to the Amazon River in Brazil. The time he spent in these endeavors brought him great joy and happiness. Pat spent many happy hours while driving on numerous roads throughout North America. He was a great hockey fan and supported the Conception Bay CeeBees.
Pat was also a man of faith.
Pat McCormick will be remembered warmly and fondly by those whom he met on the road of his life and he will live on in the hearts and minds of his family and multitude of friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Siddiqui and also Dr. Magrabi for all his countless home visits. In addition to all the other doctors, nurses and professional staff at the Health Sciences Centre who treated Pat during his illness.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, St. John’s, Thursday, February 27th, and Friday, February 28th, at 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 29th, at 10 a.m. from Corpus Christi Church, Waterford Bridge Road, St. John’s, NL.
There will be a further viewing at Noel’s Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Saturday, February 29th, at 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
The interment will take place Sunday, March 1st, at 2:30 p.m. at the family plot, Bristol’s Hope, Pat’s ancestral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Gathering Place, 172 Military Road, P.O. Box 1761, St. John’s, NL, A1C 5P5 and the Autism Society of Newfoundland & Labrador, P.O. Box 14078, 70 Clinch Crescent, St. John’s, NL A1B 4G8.
