Obituary of Patrick Keeran Blaney
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather at home, peacefully with his wife Ruth of 64 years at his side on Thursday October 1 2020.
Pat was born in Lurgan, Co Armagh, N. Ireland to John & Mary Blaney on the 3rd of March 1932. However, he always considered Canada his home. He set sail for Canada on his 17th birthday with $20 in his pocket. Pat served with the Canadian Army and was deployed to Germany and then to active duty in the Korean Conflict. His career of 32 years was with Canada Post where he served as a letter carrier, letter carrier supervisor & office manager.
Pat and Ruth raised 3 children in Markham, Annette O’Leary (late Mike) Kevin Blaney (Sherry) & Kathleen McCabe. He is survived by his brother Dan Toland of N. Ireland. Grandpa/Papa will be sorrowfully missed by his grandchildren Sean, Karen, Bree, Nicholas & Samantha & his great-grandchildren Isabella & Michele. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his parents and son-in-law Mike who has passed just 3 days before Pat. He loved to tell a joke and make people laugh. Everyone enjoyed his company.
He was a peace keeper who had a sunny outlook on life. He worked hard his whole life & then enjoyed a rich fulfilled retirement.
Pat never complained about anything and was always so appreciative of anything you did for him. His legacy will be his strength and endurance along with his love and devotion to his wife and family.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family viewing will take place at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home on Tuesday October 6th, 2020 prior to a double Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Patrick’s Parish, 5633 Hwy 7 Markham (limited to 70 people). Followed by a private family burial at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patrick
