Otmar Heribert Stolze 1936 2020

Obituary for
Otmar Heribert Stolze
1936 – 2020
Peacefully in hospital on January 12, 2020, with his family by his side. Otmar leaves behind his wife Gloria, his daughter Nancy (Kevin Fletcher) and his grandchildren William, Caleb and Sean. Son of the late Karl and Anna (Schnare), Otmar is also survived by his sisters Brunhilde and Ilsedore and his nephew and nieces. Otmar is predeceased by his brothers-in-law Gerd Stolz and Wilfried Ruettger.
Born and raised in Mettmann, Germany, Otmar trained as a land surveyor. In 1958, he immigrated to Canada where he studied road design, becoming a Registered Engineering Technologist (RET). He was recognized as an Engineer under the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI) in Germany. Otmar worked in Toronto, Gander and Edmonton, but spent most of his career in Ottawa, and he has left his mark of high-quality design on many roads in these cities. From 1993-2000, he moved to Berlin to work on major road infrastructure projects in the former East Germany after the German reunification in 1990. Back in Canada he continued to follow his passion, working until age 79.
Special thanks to those at the Ottawa General Hospital oncology unit especially, Dr McCurdy and Dr Kew; the Kemptville District Hospital who provided compassionate care during his final days, particularly Dr Luong and the nursing staff. Also special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Leahy who provided exceptional care and to the many health care providers and others who supported him.
Out of respect for his wishes there will be no service. For those wishing, please consider a donation to Myeloma Canada in Otmar’s memory.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Otmar Heribert
