Olga Martin (née McGregor) passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the age of 87. She will be lovingly remembered by her cherished husband of nearly 66 years, Ed; her children Julie (Roy), Cathy (Peter), Tom (Sandra), and Rob (Leone); her 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Olga is survived by her brother Clarence (Mae) and predeceased by her sister Hazel (Frank).
Olga was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, to Sed and Olga McGregor. She and Ed met while attending Teachers’ College in Saskatoon; so began their joyful journey together, with its focus on putting faith and family first. They enjoyed an extraordinarily close bond, demonstrating gratitude for their many blessings while supporting each other during sorrowful times.
Olga was a dedicated and well-loved teacher for more than 20 years, and greatly enjoyed travelling with her husband and children. She was appreciated by many for her welcoming manner, her warm smile, and her gift for showing a genuine interest in all those she met.
Mom’s deep faith in God was evident through her actions, as she demonstrated daily that “the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love” (Galatians 5:6). She loved her Lord with all her heart and we are comforted knowing that she is now with Him.
Mom was happiest when surrounded by her family, to whom she provided unwavering love and encouragement. Her caring spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
We are very grateful to the medical personnel at Surrey Memorial Hospital (BC) – including Olga’s granddaughter, Heidi – for caring for Mom with such compassion following her COVID-19 diagnosis.
A celebration of Olga’s life will be held at a later date.
