Olga’s Obituary
Olga Holmstrom passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge, Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at the age of 92 years.
Olga was born on January 18, 1928, to Jacob and Anna (Hryhorash) Korz in Canora, SK. She grew up on the farm and attended Brena school and then received her high school education in Canora. Upon completion of high school, she moved to Winnipeg, MB, where she graduated from secretarial school and worked for the Grain Commission until her retirement. She met and married her husband, Fred Holmstrom in Winnipeg. She loved to travel and visited many countries including Ukraine.
Family, faith, and love of animals are three attributes that come to mind when remembering Olga. Family was always very important to her. She was always loving, thoughtful, and kind. Olga’s unquestioning faith and love of God was always present in everything she did. Anyone who knew her, recalls her generous support of various animal charities and organizations. She felt empathy for the neglected, abused, and endangered animals. She will be remembered for her empathy, generosity and kindness and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Olga was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Anna; her husband, Fred Holmstrom; her sister, Victoria; and brother in-law, Sam Pylypchuk.
She is survived by her niece, Ann (Neville) Sokol of New York, USA; her nephews, Bob (Blanca) Pylypchuk of Vancouver, B.C. and John Pylypchuk of Saskatoon, SK; and her great nieces and nephew: Jacqueline Lehneis, Deanna Pylypchuk, Nicole Pylypchuk, Andres Pylypchuk, and Alexandra Pylypchuk, and her great-great nieces, Natalie and Emily Lehneis.
When death brings new life, may Olga’s journey be happy and filled with love.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK, with Shawna Leson as Celebrant.
